Taxes for the rich.

Today in the US, there is a lot of debate between Republicans and Democrats, and between "strong" Democrats and "weak" Democrats. It all about tax cuts whoop tie do. When Bush came to office, he did a number of things, one was take vacation, another was tax cuts. To be fair, he not only gave them to the rich but also to the middle class (I do not mind that because the middle class will consume most of that which will have a positive effect on the economy). Now the duration of these tax cuts are coming to an end. But not if the Republicans have anything to say about it. They want to extend the tax cuts for the rich. This also goes for the majority of the so called "weak" Democrats because those people tend to look out more for the Republican side.

In this post I shall be explaining why giving tax cuts to the rich is in every way a very stupid thing to do, and why the defenders of the tax cuts for the rich are lying to you.

First I'll just explain how the tax cuts work because there seems to be a lot of confusion about it. What a lot of people think is a tax cut works like this. you pay 1000 dollar in taxes, you get a 10 percent tax cut, so you will only have to pay 900 dollars. So what happens is practically that the government just takes less money from you. But in reality it works more like this. You pay 1000 dollars in taxes and get a 10% tax cut and you get that refunded by the government. When you look at this it seems like its the same thing. But it turns out it is totally different. It would seem totally logic for the government to assume alright we got 1000 dollars but we give them a tax cut so we give them 100 dollars back and add 900 dollars to our own budget. But what they do is, they add a 1000 dollars to their budget and loan the 100 dollars from a bank, often the central bank, and give that to the tax payer. Because most people do not do adequate research, they just think that tax cuts pay for themselves.

The (mind my hipster language) ironic thing is that the Republicans, the deficit hawks, the "hayeks", those who say the defecit is Americas #1 problem actually want to continue these tax cuts that only add to the deficit.

If the tax cuts for the rich are continued, these tax cuts for 2% of the population will add approximately 700 billion dollars to the deficit.

Just watch the first two and a half minutes.

Now let me tell you something about class warfare before I continue my rant on the tax cuts.

Because I find it interesting, because, I think there actually is class warfare in the country. It's just that the rich are doing it to you instead of the other way around. So lets take a look at some numbers, Here is the share that the top 10% of the country has had as a share of the national income.

As you see the top 10% are doing great until the great depression, then we have an enormous crash. Then things kind of even out, but after a while the class warfare begins again, and the rich start accumulating a higher percentage of income, then what happens in 2007-2008? Another giant crash. But the top 10% is still kind of broad, what if we narrow it down to top 1 percent.

Share of National Income for Top 1%
1915          18%
1928          24%     This is just before the great depression.
1953-1980  9%-11% The glory years of America.
2008          24%     Guess what happened.

But what the rich might not realize is that in order to sell your products your workers need to have enough money, but during the last couple of decades, when you adjust for inflation these workers have hardly had a pay raise. This is one of the structural faults of the system.

For example from 1980-2005
80% of increase in national income went to the top 1% and stayed there, I do not have the facts to back it up but I'm pretty sure we can confidently guess where at least 15% of the remaining increase in national income went.

So that trickle down system where rich get money and create jobs etc DOES. NOT. WORK. You can safely say it gushed up instead of trickled down. Perhaps its more correct to say that the middle class had class war committed upon them instead of the other way around.

Countries like France, Spain, but also Nicaragua and Guyana have more equality that the US. We used to call those countries "third world countries" because they had less equality than us. Now we are lower than them.

And I am not saying that all of this is just because of the tax cuts, but it is nothing less than fair for us to make the rich pay just as much taxes, because in the current state the most wealthy people in America pay less taxes than their secretaries.

So lets continue on the tax cuts.

The Republican argument can be divided into three parts, Small businesses, incentive and job creation.

Small businesses.

They say that If there are less tax cuts for the rich there will be less money for small businesses, and that those little companies will start to struggle. Unfortunately they forget to mention that over 95% of small business owners are not in the top percentage of the country. Over 95% of small businesses will not be affected negatively if these tax cuts come to an end.

A well known argument is that if taxes are increased, there will be less incentive because less gain is to be made. People often say that our policy should be changed from democratic to Ronald Reagan's (a former US president) fiscal conservative policy. And the strange thing is that me, being what most people would consider a far lefty, totally agree with that. Because what clueless people seem to forget is that their great hero Reagan, who lowered taxes and made the economy boom, set taxes that were way higher that that they are now. These people do not realize it themselves but they are actually advocating for higher taxes, because when we have taxes that are sometimes 15% for huge amounts of income, were 50% back in the days of conservative hero Ronald Reagan. And do not forget before that, when the economy was booming, there were marginal tax rates of nearly 90 percent and it turns out that small businesses were doing great at that time.

A theory of mine is that perhaps because of the high tax rates people are more stimulated to leaving the wealth inside their company because they they would not have to pay that tax. And when its in the company it is more often used for new business incentives such as expanding and creating new jobs. But I am no economist so lets carry on.

Job creation.

People often call the rich people "job creators" and we should not punish them because then they will not continue to create jobs. And that is partially true, a New York Times article noted that in the past few years when trillions of dollars were given to the wealthiest of America, 1.9 trillion dollars in jobs were created. IN OTHER COUNTRIES. They took the wealth and did the expectable and invested it abroad, such as factories in china. And I consider myself a fair guy and yes those people deserve jobs just as much as Americans, but, do not say that giving tax cuts to the rich stimulates the economy because thats a complete lie.

According to studies, giving tax cuts to the rich is pretty much the worst thing you can do to stimulate the economy. Actually raising taxes is better because the money ends up with the government that, in most cases, spends it wisely. So then the economy grows with more that just the amount of money that was added. It is called a multiplier effect, but as it turns out, giving money to rich gives a 0.25 multiplier, that means that if you give 100 dollars to a rich person, 75 dollars leaves the American economy. But if you raise the taxes and use them as a stimulus package such as obama did, more money will be added because if you spend money wisely there will be a multiplier higher of one, therefor the GDP increases and overall wealth increases. But with these tax cuts to the rich, the money only does three things.

- It goes abroad.
- It just sits in the bank
- They do with it what is most profitable and do things like speculate, and that just brings greater risk to the economy.

So it basically comes down to this: vote Republican if you are rich, but strangely the Republicans still manage to get way more than just a couple percent.

I guess people vote with the assumption that they will get rich sooner or later in life, instead of voting for the party that will give them the larger social mobility to make that actually possible.

I realize this might not be an adequate defense of suspending the tax cuts for the rich so please post your arguments in the comments.

In the upcoming days Ill make a new post arguing how it is fair for the rich to pay more than the less fortunate, but as with everyone, I can only stay focussed for so long.

The stupidest debate ever.

Hey all,

sorry for not posting yesterday. But to make it up for you I have decided, in the spirit of the upcoming 9 year "anniversary" of the World Trade Centers destruction I would go and settle the (as I see it) most retarded opposition of religious freedom I have ever witnessed.

Im talking, of course, about the construction of the so called 9/11 mosque.. DUN DUN DUN...

There has been quite some controversy in New York for a while now considering this building in progress. Here is a map showing where ground zero is and it also shows the location of the upcoming "mosque" and also some other things that according to many of the christian fundamentalists fall in the same category of horrible things that should be damned to hell, but oddly enough they seem to overlook those buildings.

So, to begin my rant about how retarded the people who oppose the "mosque" are, first lets get a couple things straight.

It is actually a 14 stories high community center that has determined that 2 of its stories are arranged to be a space of worship for muslims. It does not overlook the ground zero site, its actually a couple of hundred yards away from it. The building has been empty for a number of years and the renovation to community center is not funded by the public.

Now to continue here are two things you must know about me.

I'm an atheist, and I sincerely feel that every religion is absolutely retarded, I am talking about Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism and so on. But that does not mean that I don't support the right of people to have imaginary friends. And there is one thing I hate more than people having imaginary friends, people that have imaginary friends that deny others to have imaginary friends.

Secondly, I do not believe that al-qaeda / al-qaida (however the hell you spell that) is behind the attacks on World Trade Center's building 1,2 and 7. Let alone the attacks on the Pentagon. But for the sake of argument I'm going to assume that everything the U.S. government says is true and that some people that happen to be followers of Islam drove some planes into a number of buildings.

As i said I am an atheist, but this is the very first time I actually support the building of a "mosque" near ground zero for this very important reason. It is basically a gesture to the entire islamic community saying: Hey, we know you weren't behind these attacks, it was just a bunch of radicals and we are wise enough to see that we should not judge an entire community on the actions of a couple of nut jobs. Hell, there have also been people from our religion that have done stupid things and we certainly are not at all like them. And here in America we value your constitutional rights, even though those people did not. Because this is America, a country where we protect the rights of the minorities BECAUSE THATS WHY OUR CONSTITUTION WAS CREATED, THE FOUNDATION OF THIS NATION.    (yeh that rhymes)

Actually now that I think of it, I would support public funding of a real mosque because it says exactly that.

but not according to some people, introducing the opponents of the community center

Last week polls were taken among New Yorkers, here are some results.

Of all the people interviewed, 63% of the people said that there shouldn't be a community center with 2 stories dedicated to muslim worship anywhere near ground zero

Of all the people interviewed, 64% of the people said that Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf has the constitutional right to build a community center with 2 stories dedicated to muslim worship multiple blocks away from ground zero.

So doing the incredibly hard math work it turns out that 26% of the interviewed people actually are such dumbfucks that they don't even understand their constitution.

lets say a 100 people were interviewed, 63 of those people were against the "mosque" and 26 of those 63 are by definition, unbelievably stupid. So at least
(26/63)x100= 41.27% of the people that oppose the building of that community center are borderline retarded.

But lets get to some real arguments.

Something like: Why should they be able to build a mosque in New York if we can't build a synagogue ( if i spelled that correctly) in Mecca.

Seriously what the f ...
Aren't we supposed to better then those bigots over there? Are you really implying that you are just as bad as the people that you hate because you want to stoop down to their level? I don't even...

For years I thought you citizens of the United States actually were so proud of your nation, your constitution. Especially when the majority of you people opposing the "mosque" are right wing conservatives that constantly go "BUT HERP DERP TEH CONSTITUTON".

It is hallowed ground.

So something is hallowed ground when a holy man blessed the land. So I am assuming a priest or a rabbi or whatever went there and blessed the land. And a mosque is not good according to the bible.

Ehm okay so the strip clubs and porn shops and even the a real mosque that are also in the same area are "alright". Wait a minute... that makes completely no sense.. at all..

Muslims build mosques on places where they had a victory, they are just saying they beat us by building that "mosque"

Yeah obviously, look at all the mosques in the world. Here in the Netherlands, there are currently multiple mosques under construction. And let me tell you one thing, it is obviously because they beat us in some kind of way, there was a food eating contest and this muslim guy here won it. HOLY SHIT LETS BUILD A MOSQUE. But seriously mosques are being built because there is a demand for them, not because they won something.

Besides, is that not what the Christians and Jews did during the course of history? Did they not go and kill people and impose a religion on them?

People were killed in the name of Islam, its a bad religion

Yes I'm an atheist and I also think its a bad religion, actually I think all religions are bad, but never the less they have just as much right to exist in this world as anything or anyone. And yes people were killed in the name of Islam but that does not make all Muslims bad.

I mean what the fuck have you guys ever heard of Christianity? The inquisitions in almost every content. Islam is aproximately 1400 years ago. Do you know what Christianity was doing 1400 years in its existence? If you look at what Islam is doing now and multiply it tenfold it would still be as cute as two puppy's playing around with each other in god damn magic fairy land compared to Christianity.

Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is an "evil" extremist

What the fuck, thats the biggest load of crap I have ever heard. Seriously, even one of the most right wing administrations (the Bush administration) said he was THE example of a moderate muslim. I mean have you guys ever even read any of his work? No of course not because if you had you wouldn't be protesting this community center in the first place. Or do you actually believe just because he moved his "mosque" to a bigger location because there was more demand for it suddenly made his some extremist right suicide bomber.

and my favorite:

You wouldn't build a mosque in the pentagon, You wouldn't build a hindu temple in Pearl Harbor.

Well first of all there is a muslim prayer room in the pentagon. Secondly.....
what did the Hindu's ever do to Pearl Harbor.. maybe he means shinto temple, and wait for it. There actually is a shinto temple in Pearl Harbor.

It hurts the feelings of the victims of 9/11

As I already pointed out, they have no reason to be offended. And if they are, they are racist bigots because they are just saying that those 19 men represent all of Islam, and thats like.... fucking stupid.

Fun fact by the way, the main news channel thats absolutely anti "9/11 mosque" is Fox news, however it turns out that Fox news's second largest shareholder is one of the main funders of the community center.

So it all boils down to this. Do you think that the actions of few represent the minds of many?

But really what the retarded thing is about this debate, is that very few people have gone out and said what I have just written down. Because any rational person that would hear this would come to their senses.

So think again, christian, jew, muslim, atheist, should you be excluded from having a freedom of believing what you want just because of the actions of some?

This is the first step on the road that leads to hate, intolerance, and more. If the plans for the "mosque" wont follow through, it will be the official sign that your rights are not unshakable. And that they can be taken away because the majority thinks it is an unpopular idea. Please remember that at times, ending slavery was an unpopular idea. That rights for minorities were an unpopular idea. That rights  for women were an unpopular idea.

Now it seems that the right for freedom of religion is an unpopular idea, and that the constitution will just be thrown away like some piece of paper because it, in this case, does not for fill the wishes of the majority. The majority that is too stupid to realize that the constitution is not there to protect the rights of the majority, it is there to protect the rights of  the minority. And as I already said, when those rights fade, there is no longer "America" there will only be a bunch of savages.

Please do not forget english is not my first language, so sorry for the spelling mistakes.

Well thats my rant for the day, peace.

In this post Ill try to give some info and my stance on the current developments in Iran.

Before we start talking about whats currently happening, we have to look at its past. I have embedded a short 10 minute video that is both eye-opening and factual.

For some clarification, heres a map of Iran and surroundings where there are U.S. armed forces.

Hmm... that does give you something to think about.

When Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the highest-ranking American officer, was asked recently on NBC’s Meet The Press whether the United States has a military plan for an attack on Iran, he replied simply: “We do.”

Now I'm not saying a war like Iraq is not horrible, but Ill now make the case that a war in Iran will be some serious business. First of all, it is pretty easy to get caught up in a war with them, mostly because the current government (a theocracy) does not like... well it doesnt like anything. Seriously check this link out:

Ahmedinejad slams Paul the 'psychic' octopus

And if one country goes to war against Iran chances are pretty big your country will do the same. Heres one example: Israel goes to war with Iran, but America has already announced that its support to Israel is sacred. Therefore America is bound to go to war. And it just so happens that not only every other Western president/what ever you call your leader has no spine, but there already in a sort of alliancecalled the NATO (north atlantic treaty organisation), so war for every western country will be imminent. If any middle eastern country would have beef with Iran they'll also recieve american funding. So yeah....

Now you are probably thinking.. they might be some crazy religious guys but do they really have an interest in war? Well turns out they have an increadible interest in war.

As you all know, every country is pretty much addicted to oil, and it turns out that Iran has over 7% of all the oil in the world and because of that war would increase the oil prices AKA more money). Ofcourse you are thinking now.. dude 7 percent that counts for shit. Yeah well so did I untill I did a bit of research. If you look at the map again, you'll see that Iran pretty much dominates the persian guld wich happens to be where almost all the oil in the world goes through on ships. Iran’s mountainous coastline extends along the whole northern side of the Gulf, and these missiles have easily concealed mobile launchers. They would sink tankers with ease, and in a few days insurance rates for tankers planning to enter the Gulf would become prohibitive, effectively shutting down the region’s oil exports completely. So if there will be war, Iran can control pretty much 50% of all the oil in the world. And furthermore a lot of the oil that is not beeing pumped up to the surface in the middle east is located in Venezuela, and turns out Chavez and Ahmedinejad are pretty much BFF's.

But surely we could invade Iran if we needed to... well turns out we pretty much can not...

There are some 80 million people in Iran, and although many of them don’t like the present regime they are almost all fervent patriots who would resist a foreign invasion. Iran is a mountainous country, and very big: four times the size of Iraq. The Iranian army currently numbers about 450,000 men, slightly smaller than the U.S. Army—but unlike the U.S. Army, it does not have its troops scattered across literally dozens of countries. So our only oppertunity would be to drop a carpet of nuclear weapons across entire Iran. And by doing so, the country that would use nuclear devices would have pretty much the entire united nations on their ass.

My fingers are getting tired now so Ill continue this post another time.

education time

This might be the most important video I have seen so far in my life. Trust me when I say you will definitely want to see it.

You can post comments and Ill discuss with you if you have any questions.

education time

Hey guys, back again. A few weeks ago I stumbled on a seminar on justice from Harvard. I find it Highly interesting and a good introduction to some of the aspects of philosophy. Ill embed the first one but only give links to the others because theres not enough room.  Just watch the first one and see how you like it.

Justice episode 1

Alright thats part one, ill post links to the other parts there quite many. But for me it would seem unwise to pass up on freely available harvard education.

Justice episode 2                     Justice episode 7

Justice episode 3                     Justice episode 8

Justice episode 4                     Justice episode 9

Justice episode 5                     Justice episode 10

Justice episode 6                     Justice episode 11

education time

So... I have come to the conclusion that (most of) you are pretty much uninformed basement dwelling neckbeards who spend their time posting lolcats and photoshopping Keanu Reaves into every possible picture in the universe. Sadly thats just not going to cut it when you want to be the guy that knows a lot of shit but still is socially awkward instead of the socially awkward guy that doesn't know shit.

So I figured, since I will be ranting about how incredibly dumb religion is I'd kick education time off with some badass macro scale science. Firstly because you might not be able to understand my (probably retarded) point of view on everyday debates like that islamic cultural center a few blocks away from ground zero. Secondly because the videos I will be posting are quite awesome and could influence the rest of your life.

TL;DR  Just watch it you lazy prick.

Hey guys,

I'm an 18 year old male from the Netherlands. I've got a profound interest in things ranging from quantum physics to modern politics. I will be mostly posting news that you don't see on the TV with my own opinion about it. But also interesting things concerning philosophy, science and random stuff from the internet.

Please keep in mind that english is not my primary language, and also that I'm just starting with blogging so Ill need to get the hang of it. So spread the word!
